FAQ
Why is grooming so expensive?
There are several factors that contribute to the cost of grooming, including the quality of products and equipment, overhead expenses, and the skill of our grooming staff. We use top-tier tools like Les Poochs brushes and Spa Treatment shampoos, and our equipment, such as the massaging bathing system, is state-of-the-art. For example, our slicker brushes cost $70 each, but they help us achieve superior grooming results. We attend seminars and trade shows annually to stay current with grooming techniques and equipment, ensuring that your pet receives the best care possible.
How long does it take to groom?
Grooming typically takes between 1 to 3 hours, depending on factors such as coat type, size, and the pet's behavior. While quality is our priority, we aim to complete the grooming process as efficiently as possible to ensure your pet's comfort.
Do you sedate pets who may be difficult to groom?
No, we do not sedate pets. We use gentle and positive methods to calm pets and proceed with grooming. If a pet is deemed too difficult to groom, we will send them home for safety reasons.
How is a FURminator used for shedding pets?
The FURminator is a de-shedding tool that effectively removes the undercoat and loose fur, reducing shedding by up to 90%. This service is available as an add-on and is not included in the standard grooming packages.
Eye Cleaning
Eye mucus can impair vision, harden into crusts, and cause infections. Our eye cleaning process softens and gently removes these crusts, preventing discomfort and potential health issues.
Hair Cutting
We trim, cut, and style your dog’s hair based on their breed and your preferences to ensure both comfort and cuteness.
When should my puppy get their first grooming?
Puppies should begin professional grooming at 10 weeks of age (after their second vaccination). This allows them to become familiar with the grooming process and sets a foundation for good grooming behavior. Brushing at home should begin as early as possible.
How do I know if my pet’s fur is matted?
If you cannot comb through your pet’s fur to the roots, they are matted. If the mats can be removed with fingers, de-matting is possible. However, tightly woven mats may require shaving, and we will strive to preserve as much hair as possible for a stylish look.
Washing
Dogs can get dirty quickly. We ensure a thorough wash, focusing on all areas including the backside and between the toes. We use tearless shampoo for the face, white-enhancing shampoo for dogs with white coats, and a conditioner for extra softness or shine.
Nail Trimming
Nail trimming can be a difficult task for many dogs. We offer nail trimming services to ensure your pet’s nails are properly maintained.
Medicated Shampoo
We offer veterinarian-recommended medicated shampoo to fight itching, flaking, and scaling, and to help treat hot spots and minor abrasions.
Flea & Tick Bath
Our flea and tick bath kills adult fleas and ticks while leaving your pet smelling fresh.
Cancellations
If you need to cancel an appointment, we ask that you give as much notice as possible. Cancellations within 24 hours of the appointment will incur a $25 fee. Chronic cancellations may result in the inability to book future appointments.
How much does it cost to groom my pet?
Grooming prices start at $55 for small dogs but depend on the breed, size, condition, and temperament of the pet. Grooming is a more involved process than getting a haircut, as pets are often more wiggly and difficult to handle.
Anal Gland Expression
We offer anal gland expression as a service. When these glands fail to empty normally, impaction can occur, often due to small anal openings or soft stools. Our process for manual emptying is quick and painless.
Brush Out
For long-haired dogs prone to matting, we offer a brush-out service to keep their fur healthy and manageable.
Pre-Booking
Many clients schedule their pets' grooming at regular intervals (3-8 weeks). We encourage rebooking before you leave to ensure your pet gets a spot on our rotational schedule. During busy periods like the holidays, early booking is essential to secure appointments.
Vaccination Requirements
Rabies vaccinations are required for all pets over 6 months of age. If your pet has a medical exemption, we will require confirmation from your veterinarian. We also accept titer tests done within the last 6 months.
Injury
While accidents are rare, we prioritize safety. Any incidents will be reported to the owner immediately, and if necessary, we will transport the pet to a vet. Pet owners are responsible for any veterinary costs related to pre-existing conditions or injuries during grooming.
How long should my pet go in-between grooming?
The frequency of grooming depends on coat type and length, as well as the amount of home grooming done. Long-haired dogs should be groomed every 3-4 weeks, while short-haired dogs can go 6-7 weeks between appointments.
Fluffing/Brushing
For long-haired dogs, regular brushing is essential to prevent matting. After bathing, we will fluff and comb your pet’s hair as needed.
Health
If your pet has any medical conditions (e.g., seizures, arthritis), please inform us before grooming. We will make the necessary adjustments to ensure your pet's comfort. In cases requiring special veterinary care, we may refer you to a veterinary groomer.
Payment
Payment is due upon completion of service. First-time clients are required to pay in cash. Returning clients may pay by cash or PayPal (please inform us beforehand if you wish to use PayPal).
Temperament
If your pet has a history of biting or behavioral issues, please let us know in advance. We have experience working with fearful dogs and will handle them with care. If additional time is needed for special handling, there may be a fee.
No Shows
Habitual no-shows may be subject to a fee up to the price of grooming and may no longer be able to schedule future appointments.
